Za'myah Judge's Mom was preparing to take her to the community pool in the evening before tragedy struck.
A 6-year-old girl drowned in her neighbor's pool after climbing over a locked gate to enter the pool reported PEOPLE. Gastonia police officers were called to a home on South Emerson Street on June 11 for a possible drowning. When first responders got to the home, they were told family members pulled the child Za'myah Judge's body from the water and attempted life-saving measures. Paramedics took over and tried to revive the girl but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The authorities believe she tried to get into the pool by herself when the mishap happened. "She still had her whole life ahead of her, she was 6 years old, she was pure, she was innocent," said her mother.
Gastonia Police Department put out the following statement regarding the incident: "Detectives from the Gastonia Police Department are investigating the June 11 drowning death of a six-year-old girl that occurred in a residential pool. There is no foul play suspected in the girl’s death. At approximately 4:29 p.m. on June 11, #GastoniaPD officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a home on S. Emerson Street for the report of a possible drowning in a backyard above-ground pool. Family members pulled the six-year-old out of the water and attempted life-saving measures prior to first responders arriving," read the post. "First responders who arrived at the home took over life-saving measures and transported the girl, identified as Za’myah Judge, to a local hospital. Judge was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Detectives believe Za'myah accessed the pool after stacking "several chairs against her next-door neighbor's locked pool gate," which she then "climbed over" before entering the water. Police said her younger brother told investigators that he saw his sister enter the water. He told cops "that he ran for help after he did not see her re-surface." Za'myah's mother, Christian Cash, last saw her after lunch when Judge said "I love you" and headed to her room. Her mother was straightening up the house in the evening after which she was supposed to take both the kids to the community pool but "Judge couldn't wait" said her mother, according to WSOC-TV.
Cash is beyond heartbroken after losing her daughter. “Why? Why? She still had her whole life ahead of her, she was 6 years old, she was pure, she was innocent,” said Cash, reported WSOC-TV.
Cash said she lived next door to her neighbor’s pool for six months. “I never even knew this man had a pool next door,” she said. Now, it’s all she thinks about. “It was just like, just like that,” she said, snapping her fingers. Judge and her 5-year-old brother slipped outside. Cash said she didn’t know her youngest children were gone until the 5-year-old raced back to his mom to tell her what happened. “No one will ever take her place and life will never be the same without her,” said Cash.
