A Texas couple was charged with capital murder after a little girl under their care died from "dehydration." She had been forced to jump on a trampoline for an extended period of time in searing temperatures outside. Deputies of the Odessa Police Department (OPD) responded to a call at 4300 block of Locust Avenue on August 29 around the afternoon according to a department statement. Police found an 8-year-old girl who pronounced dead on the scene after a preliminary examination. A capital murder investigation was started by the police against Daniel Schwarz,44, and Ashley Schwarz, 34. They were finally charged on October 12. "Investigation revealed that the 8-year-old child had been punished and was not allowed to eat breakfast and was required to jump on the trampoline without stopping for an extended period of time," the statement read.

It added, "Further investigation revealed that the 8-year-old child was not allowed to drink any water because she was not jumping." The police also got a search warrant and an investigation revealed that the temperature of the trampoline was "approximately 110 degrees and the ground was approximately 150 degrees" on the day. The OPD received a final autopsy report of the girl's body on October 8. The report listed the manner of death as "homicide and the cause of death to be dehydration." The statement added further, "Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, capital murder warrants were obtained for both Daniel Schwarz and Ashley Schwarz, who were charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center."

According to Odessa American, OPD spokesperson Cpl. Steve LeSueur said Daniel Schwarz and Ashley Schwarz were the non-biological parents of the 8-year-old.  CBS7 reports the victim as identified as Jaylin and her family members said the two suspects were her "guardians." As per PEOPLE, Jaylin's biological mother was identified as Alysha Anderton. She took to social media, writing, "I never got the chance to tell her how HARD I was trying to be in her life and I was SO SO close. Only a few months away from being able to see them. But I was too late. And all I can think about is her leaving this world not knowing how much I love her and how much I wanted her."

She added, "It's not fair that they got so many memories with her and all I'm left with is a hole in my heart that's so big that I'm completely numb and empty. A part of my soul has died and I will never be the same ever again." On the OPD's Facebook post about the case, a number of people expressed their anger at the case. Kim McClug wrote: The fact that this was a guardian and not her bio mother that has worked her hardest to get her children back makes this the worst story. CpS needs to send her little sister home!! They have zero right to keep her from her mother!! This little girl would be alive if she was with her mother and not this horrible people! Disgusting behavior from the ones that are supposed to protect children! The post was liked and commented on hundreds of times and reshared over a thousand times.

There were many like Terri Jenkins who wanted the harshest punishment meted out for the couple. He wrote: Death penalty for both! I am glad Texas is a death penalty state just wish they weren't on death row for 20 or more years. How long did it take the little girl to die! Get on with the execution. Another commentator Shirley Nicole wrote:  Absolutely terrible! Were there any investigations on the welfare of the child prior? It sounds like ongoing abuse! Hope maybe some are taken more seriously. But it doesn't seem to be happening despite these instances. I just want all the little ones to be safe! Many people have been posting comments and new about the case with the hashtag #justiceforjaylin
