Spears shared that she took a pregnancy test after her fiancé, Sam Asghari, teased her about being 'food pregnant.'
In an Instagram post shared Monday, Britney Spears shared some exciting news with her 40.5m followers on the platform. Sharing a photo of a cup of tea surrounded by flowers, the 40-year-old pop star revealed that she is pregnant with her third child. The "Oops!...I Did It Again" singer's announcement comes a few months after she was released from her nearly 14-year conservatorship that she said prevented her from marrying and having additional children. In the now-viral Instagram post, Spears shared that she took a pregnancy test after her fiancé, Sam Asghari, teased her about being "food pregnant."
"I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back... I thought 'Geez... what happened to my stomach???' My husband said, 'No you're food pregnant silly!!!' So I got a pregnancy test... and uhhhhh well... I am having a baby... 4 days later I got a little more food pregnant. It's growing!!! If 2 are in there... I might just lose it," the star wrote. Spears, who has two children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline, added that she planned to spend less time going out to avoid the paparazzi.
"I obviously won't be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have... it's hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression... I have to say it is absolutely horrible... women didn't talk about it back then... some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her... but now women talk about it every day... thank Jesus we don't have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret... This time I will be doing yoga every day!!! Spreading lots of joy and love," Spears concluded.
Later on Monday, Asghari wrote in his own Instagram post that he was looking forward to becoming a father. "Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect. Fatherhood is something I have always looked forward to and I don't take lightly. It is the most important job I will ever do," the 28-year-old fitness model wrote. Last June, Spears told a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in an explosive hearing that she was required to remain on birth control under the conservatorship that controlled her life despite her desire to have another child.
"I want to be able to get married and have a baby," she told the court, reports USA Today. "I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married or have a baby. I have (an) IUD inside of (me) right now so I don't get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I can start trying to have another baby but this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don't want me to have any more children." Judge Brenda Penny ultimately terminated the arrangement in November 2021.
In a March 2021 interview with Forbes, Asghari opened up about the next steps he wanted to take in life with Spears. "My priorities in life are to remain humble and understand where I came from and where I’m going," Asghari shared. "I want to take my career to the next step when it comes to acting. I want to take my relationship to the next step, as well. I don’t mind becoming a father. I want to be a young dad.”
