Dad Forces Daughter To Shave Her Head As Punishment For Mocking A Student Who Had Cancer

The father took to Reddit and asked if he was wrong.

Parenting is hard work. Probably one of the hardest challenges in any parent's life is to deal with the restive emotions and needs of their children when they reach their vulnerable teenage years. But where do parents draw a line while trying to teach their children about what's right and what's wrong? One father wrote about a situation where he forced his 16-year-old daughter to shave her head because she made fun of another student who was bald due to cancer. He did this without consulting his ex-wife and mother of the girl. While the father was pretty sure he was justified in doing what he did, he still wanted reassurance that he was right by writing on the Reddit page AITA (am I the a**hole). Many were divided on the father's action.

The post that has since been deleted mentions how the father thought his daughter was extremely rude to not just make fun of her classmate's baldness but to also pull off a wig that she was wearing. "Apparently there is some pre-existing bad blood between the two of them, but I don't think that even begins to excuse her behavior. Not how I've raised my daughter to treat people and it truly disgusted me to hear how she acted from her deputy principle," the father wrote. The girl was nowhere near apologetic even after being confronted by her father about her actions but instead tried to justify what she had done. He was enraged at this fact. "She showed no remorse. She tried to excuse her behavior by saying the girl in question deserved it," he wrote. But he was having none of it.

"Again, I don't care what she said, that behaviour is inexcusable," he stated and gave her daughter two options to make amends - "Either I will throwaway every single piece of electronics she owns and never buy her another again" or option two which is that "she will go to the hairdresser and get a cue ball haircut. As in, a completely shaved head, as bald as the hairdresser can do." Another condition he included was that she had to go to school without a wig. When the girl's mother found out what her ex-husband had done she lost it with him. "As you can imagine, everyone thinks I went way overboard. Her mother went ballistic at me saying it will make her the target of bullying (kind of the point, teach her some compassion)," he wrote while adding that he is confident he did the right thing and "obviously I'm NTA (not the a**hole)."

But he needed some validation for his actions and asked, "What I'm asking is AITA for going too far? I think it's fair. I can't stand parents that enable bullying because they refuse to see how their little angels truly behave." The dad said in an interview that his daughter was dating the other girl's ex-boyfriend which was why the issue happened in the first place. He said,  "They were having an argument in class about stupid teenage gossip regarding my daughter's boyfriend. At some point the other girl mentioned how my daughter's boyfriend was just using her for sex (this was actually a big shock to me as I had no idea she was sexually active) and called my daughter a slut. That's what escalated the situation and resulted in the wig incident. Supposedly they have been arguing in class ever since my daughter started dating the guy in question."

He added, "Basically just stupid teenage 'he said she said' nonsense." Still, the dad thought his daughter's actions were inexcusable especially considering that his own mother passed away due to breast cancer when he was in his 20s. But his ex-wife thought their daughter will be a target of bullying now because of his actions. "My daughter knows this and that is what really disgusted me with her behavior. It demonstrated a complete and utter lack of empathy. I hoped that her going to school bald and walking a mile in the other girl's shoes would teach her a lesson," he said.
