The pandemic has brought the closure of schools across the nation with the likelihood of them even reopening charted for the end of the year. High school and college graduates are unfortunately bearing the brunt of this as ceremonies have been canceled until further notice. Students looking forward to stepping into a brand new chapter of their lives have instead been forced into the confines of their houses. Krispy Kreme, one of the world's largest donut chains, has of course been following this pretty closely. So, in a bid to make their life a little sweeter, the global chain is offering a special deal for the class of 2020.

According to People, the store announced on Tuesday, May 19, that it will be giving away free "Graduated Dozen donuts to any and all high school and college graduates." The only requirement to receive the free special is for them to wear their cap, gown, or any 'Class of 2020' apparel when stepping into a participating Krispy Kreme outlets across the United States. Explaining the new campaign in a press release, Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme, said: “We feel for all of the high school and college seniors. We wish they had that moment of walking across the stage and getting their diploma. We can’t replace that … but we thought we could help them safely have a little fun and enjoy a special ‘Graduate Dozen’ on us."

The "Graduate Dozen" box will include three rows of donuts with "2020" icing on them. As for the flavors, there will be two each of Strawberry Iced Kreme Filled, Cake Batter Filled,  and Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled donuts plus six Yellow Iced Original Glazed donuts. Besides the "2020 donuts, other special donuts will also be available from May 18 - 24 across all stores for drive-thru or online orders. Moms, dads, friends, and family can buy this ‘Graduate Dozen’ all week long to honor their favorite graduates, but only seniors can get one for free," Skena continued.

Krispy Kreme isn't the only food chain honoring the graduates of 2020, according to Today, several popular outlets have come up with a unique proposition of their own to keep the dejected students happy. Chipotle recently announced on their Instagram that any student buying a graduate-themed gift card from the burrito chain between May 21 to June 30 will get a coupon code for a free entree. Besides this, the California-based fast food restaurant is also holding a contest where students can win a $25,000 scholarship.

Jack In The Box is running a campaign where it is giving away two free tacos for the class of 2020 for orders placed on its official Jack in the Box mobile app between May 20 and May 26. Edible Arrangements, meanwhile, is giving away free Celebration Dipped Fruit Delights for graduates provided they post a video on social media using the hashtag #EdibleMoments with their name and provide an explanation on how they're planning to celebrate their graduation. It's not just the fast-food chains looking to honor the outgoing students either, Ruth's Chris Steak House, the upscale steak restaurant, has also joined in on the fun offering a steak to graduating students.

The company, which came under criticism for accepting a $20 million aid under the Payment Protection Program (PPP) is giving all grads a complimentary Ruth’s filet - which is the restaurant's 11-ounce filet mignon - along with the purchase of any two entrées. All these offers are available at select stores participating in the campaign and information regarding this can be obtained by visiting your nearest franchise.

Now, we know no amount of discounts or freebies can be a stand-in for walking on stage in a gown, but the road to happiness always starts from the tummy, something the chains are making sure of with their unique offerings.
