A Pennsylvania mother Trinh Nguyen, who was facing eviction, allegedly shot her sons, JT Tini, 13, and Nelson Tini, 9 in the head while they were asleep early Monday. The 38-year-old allegedly also tried to shoot a neighbor. According to PEOPLE, District Attorney Matt Weintraub said in a statement that the boys were shot in the head while they slept in their beds. The mother is believed to have turned the gun on one of her ex-husband's relatives, 22-year-old Gianni Melchiondo, who lives on the other side of the duplex home, but the gun didn't fire.

The woman then fled the scene. The New York Post reports that she had ingested narcotics in a failed suicide bid, as per the report. The woman was hospitalized and later charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of an instrument of crime. After shooting the boys she was found with a box of photos which she wanted Melchiondo to take to her ex-husband who he worked with. When he agreed, she tried to shoot him but fortunately, the gun did not go off. He wrestled with the mother to get the gun away from her and finally succeeded.

Weintraub told reporters that police found the boys in the home still alive, according to NBC News. "Upon entry both boys were found still alive but in their beds with gunshot wounds to their heads," Weintraub told reporters. The children are not expected to survive and are being kept on life support until their organs can be donated. Once the boys’ organs are transplanted, “we will upgrade these charges to two counts of homicide.” “There were other evidentiary indications that she intended to take her own life but was unsuccessful,” Weintraub said of the mother. “I have two kids. It can’t hit any closer to home than this. I've been saying my prayers ever since I got this call this morning," Weintraub said. "It’s a very difficult image to get out of my head."

Court documents reveal that Nguyen was in a rent dispute with her landlord claiming Nguyen owed over $11,000 in rent in arrears, or unpaid rent. It seems that Nguyen was about to be evicted from the home on Tuesday because of unpaid rent, reports The Courier Times. Weintraub declined to comment on the pending eviction. The Council Rock School District issued a statement, saying in part, "I am deeply saddened to send this communication to you in light of the well-publicized tragedy involving two Council Rock students today. A tragic event is always difficult to process for all of us, especially our children."
