The Oscar winner, 65, photobombed a bridal party in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh-area bride, Grace Gwaltney was about to head to her wedding ceremony on Saturday when an unexpected guest dropped by. Oscar-winning actor, Tom Hanks surprised her and her bridal party outside of their hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. What was the 65-year-old doing there? Hanks is currently filming a movie in the area and decided to pop by to surprise the wedding party-goers. The movie is called A Man Called Otto and Hanks plays a retired man who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his neighbors.

Gwaltney admitted that she was shocked to see the Finch star. "He was like, 'Hey! I'm Tom Hanks. I would love to get a photo with you' and I immediately froze and was just looking around," she told KCRA. "I didn't know what to do." Gwaltney knew that the actor was in town and thought he was the "perfect person" to play the titular character. "He is filming his new movie and my sister and I were just talking about how much we love the book that he is filming the movie for so it was kinda like full-circle," she said. "It was honestly like crazy because we were just talking about him."

"We all lost it," Rachel Rowland, a wedding photographer working that day, said. "The bridesmaids shuffled out of the limo, and he posed with photos and congratulated everyone, and then as fast as he popped in, he was gone. It was just so sweet and fun!" Rowland told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the group "started screaming and were pretty much in shock" after the encounter.
@tomhanks filmed the Fred Rogers movie in #Pittsburgh; he’s back filming another, again being his friendly, down-to-earth off-camera self. He and the city have an affinity. As a native, I know why. He’s an unassuming guy in an unassuming town. https://t.co/4E9qMxI1QO— howardfineman (@howardfineman) March 23, 2022
According to Rowland, prior to joining the photo, wife Rita Wilson was also there watching Hanks "so lovingly in the moment." She told Good Morning America, "We realized half the bridesmaids were in the limo and [Hanks] is yelling, ‘Get them out here. Get out here.'" Rowland recalled, "Then Rita was standing next to me and we were like, ‘Let’s get Rita in there,' and she was like, 'No, no, no,' and we finally got her in and it was a really sweet moment."

Gwaltney was so overcome with emotion during the encounter that she started crying tears of joy when the Hanks surprise happened, according to Rowland who added, "It really couldn’t have happened to a sweeter person." Gwaltney and her new husband are currently on their honeymoon and for the bride, her wedding day just became more memorable than she could ever imagine!
Also, this isn't Hanks's first time surprising a bride. In October, the actor posed for photos with Diciembre and Tashia Farries who tied the knot on the beach by Santa Monica Pier in California. "We see a guy walking through the crowd and initially I'm like, 'Who's this guy getting in our pictures?'" Tashia told PEOPLE at the time. "And we hear everyone like, 'Wait, is that Tom Hanks?'" They ended up chatting and "immediately he treated us like family," Tashia added.
